Transformer and distribution work should not begin until the load, route, civil works, earthing, protection, equipment and commissioning responsibilities are clear.
Confirm the electrical requirement
Provide present and future load information, voltage level, proposed transformer rating, network condition and the reliability required by the connected facilities. Equipment selection should follow verified demand rather than an approximate rating chosen in isolation.
Review the network and route
The route should be checked for access, clearances, pole or structure positions, cable paths, road crossings and wayleave requirements. Existing services and future development should also be considered before the alignment is finalised.
Confirm civil readiness
Transformer foundations or plinths, fencing, trenches, supports and drainage should match the approved equipment and site conditions. Installation should not begin where the civil works are incomplete, unstable or inconsistent with the equipment dimensions.
Define protection and isolation
Protection should limit the effect of faults and allow the affected section to be isolated safely. The proposed scheme, ratings, settings, switching arrangements and responsibilities for approval should be clear before energisation.
Verify the earthing arrangement
Earthing provides a safer path for fault current and helps protect people and equipment. Electrode locations, conductors, connections, target resistance and testing responsibility should be documented and verified.
Check materials and approvals
Approved drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, manufacturer information and inspection requirements should be available before procurement and installation. Substitutions should be reviewed rather than introduced informally on site.
Plan testing and commissioning
Inspection points, test instruments, acceptance criteria, witness responsibilities, protection settings, labelling and final authorisation should be agreed. Defects should be recorded and closed before the system is energised.
Prepare the handover records
The final package should include approved drawings, equipment data, inspection sheets, test results, settings, defect closure and operating information. These records become essential during future maintenance or fault investigation.
